Cartridges for turntables

Ortofon is the world's leading cartridge specialist and one-stop supplier of phono cartridges.

MCA90 cartridge

Ortofon is the recognised global leader in the production of phono cartridges. Offering the benefits of one stop supply, we are focused on elevating the phono cartridge to the leading edge of technology.

Our goal is to bring the cartridge to the forefront of the technology field, with regard to materials, design, magnetic systems and everything else the cartridge is comprised of.

To achieve this Ortofon apply computer modelling for cartridge design, advanced measurement techniques for control of the final product, Measurement System Analysis to ensure the quality and consistency of the Ortofon measurement system, Gauge R&R (Repeatability and Reproducibility) for testing of the cartridges.

R&D is done with the company's own engineers, benefitting from the strong network of acoustic and industrial design experts in Denmark including Danish Technological Institute. Cooperation with Danish Technological Institute originally began with experiments in the production of plastic items for cartridges in the Selective Laser Melting (SLM) machine by use of a new Rapid Manufacturing (RM) technology. RM allows manufacure parts in different materials directly from 3D file. Microparticles are laser-welded together and create a structure of great rigidity and immunity to unwanted vibrations.

The use of Selective Laser Melting technique has been pioneered by Ortofon for manufacturing of phono cartridges

The use of SLM technique has given us a bigger design-wise and creative space, because we are no longer limited by a particular geometric shape. We do not produce tools and therefore production process reduces to a few weeks where before it took 4-6 months. The time factor means that we can now try out our ideas, and it gives an enormous freedom.

Since 2008 the SLM technique & RM technology has been a part of Ortofon business model.

We preserve our heritage by continuously investing
in technology and product development.
